Ivory Safari Lodge, Hwange (nights 2-4)  

Set in the Hwange National Park, and purpose-built to blend into the surrounding bushveld, this stilted property prides itself on providing sustainable, immersive and ecologically responsible safari experiences. This lodge offers an outdoor swimming pool, lounge area and multiple private safari hides. Guest chalets feature private terraces, overlooking the park, mosquito nets and tea/coffee-making facilities.

Sable Valley, Hwange (nights 2-4)  

Based in a private concession on the edge of the lively Hwange National Park, near the populous Dete Vlei area, the lodge pairs modern comforts with unparalleled intimacy with Zimbabwe’s natural world. The property offers an underground hide and treehouse platform, looking out across the nearby watering holes, as well as an outdoor swimming pool. Guestrooms are set in a series of 11 traditional thatched ‘rondavels’ (round houses) and include mosquito nets and private terraces.

Shearwater Explorers Village, Victoria Falls (nights 5-7) 

This hotel, based on the outskirts of Victoria Falls town centre, features an outdoor swimming pool, restaurant and bar, and comfortable lounge areas. Cosy guestrooms include air-conditioning, mosquito nets, tea/coffee-making facilities, and safes. There is also free Wi-Fi throughout. 

Hotel Krige, Stellenbosch (nights 8-9) 

With stunning views of the surrounding mountains, this modern Stellenbosch hotel bases guests in the centre of the town’s historic quarter and is within walking distance of several charming eateries. There is also a cafeteria, offering grab-and-go breakfasts, and a newly refurbished rooftop lounge. Sleek guestrooms encompass free Wi-Fi, TVs and tea/coffee-making facilities.

The Portswood Hotel, Cape Town (nights 10-12) 

Set at the entrance to the Victoria & Alfred waterfront, this welcoming hotel offers an ideal base from which to explore Cape Town’s trendiest corners. The property is equipped with an outdoor swimming pool, a wellness centre and an on-site restaurant, which serves Cape Malay cuisine, as well as a cocktail lounge.
